ok, a republican freed them. in the 1860s and farther into our history democrats were the ones who wished them to remain slaves. fine. but dont pretend either party today has anything to do with the names used then. if the first republican believed the urban majority had no right to press its views on others 1000s of miles away he would have let the CSA stand. with slaves, since that was their culture.
