If he has a wireless router then the mac address on file is the routers mac, not the one on his computer. I have a netgear router and it'll let me make up whatever mac address i like. I think other routers will let you fake/create your own mac address also. That'll let you keep changing it over and over as much as you like.

Also, I also think that if you click the link you're not admitting to doing the sharing but you're simply acknowledging that you are now aware of the problem. So if you actually did have an open wireless network you are saying that you understand there is a problem and will take steps to address that problem. I don't think it means that you admit you were doing the actual sharing.
