Oh yeah, it was definitely a scary game and technologically way in advance of what was around at the time. I think my main problem with Doom 3 was how cheap it was.

If you use mods that actually allow you to carry a flashlight and gun at the same time, you can see all the monsters spawning in behind you, which is horribly cheap and backwards but you're right about it's strengths and weaknesses.
