I can understand how, when you are first writing a new series, your focus is on making it interesting and sustainable so that it won't get dropped. Only after it's caught on would you start to think about where it's going, and also how to preserve the franchise (spinoffs!) It's all a matter of priority. However, I was a little disappointed to find out that they were actually angels and it was all some mystical god fixing all the loose ends.
