I watch the show for the character development for the most part. The interaction between them, the political drama and the personal. The occasional space battle is welcomed, but there has to be something more to the show then explosions.

For the most part yes, the plan seemed to be kill the humans. More of which we'll find out about in the upcoming movie.

Deep Space Nine had an interesting series long arc that ended well. But they also completely disregarded that arc between the 3rd and 6th season.
