If you want to complain about the latest American government blunder/malicious act, you can make another thread about it. Every moment America has existed it has either been actively tearing away at its own foundation or oppressing part of its population in a highly hypocritical fashion.

But July 4th, 1776, is the day America did something right, and gave birth to every good thing it would ever do.

You have every moment of every other day to proclaim the latest date of the "death of America". But today is the day we remember the indelible mark America and its ideals left on the world. Today is reserved for the good things the people of this country have ever done.

Incidentally, as far as the inevitable amount of anti-French talk there's going to be be today goes, I'll take the French over Russians any day. Both were useless in a world war, and both got the shit kicked out of them during another world war. But the difference is the French have always been closer to our ideals, they helped us in our war against the British but a few years after the day we are supposed to be remembering today, they were inspired by our Revolution to endeavor to throw down their own monarchy (not very successful, but it's the thought that counts), and, for crying out loud, the French didn't produce a Stalin.
