As far as the mormon garments go, it is true they aren't supposed to talk about it with any who have not made the "covenant with god." Thus when you bring it up, especially when making light of them, mormons get extremely uncomfortable.
The garments have all sorts of mormon urban legends associated with them. "They can be bullet-proof if you are doing god's work," "men have started undressing to be unfaithful to their wives and when they saw their garments were reminded of their covenants and ran," etc.
As far as the religion changing my attitude about the guy, no way. First, the reason I hate all religions is the attitudes of judgement it spawns in its members, so I won't indulge, and second, all religions are crazy. "An invisible person up in the sky wants me to be good and will be so mad if I'm not that I will spend an eternity burning in agony after I die ("good" meaning whatever an inaccurate and repeatedly mistranslated ancient text says it means).
