Alright, let's start the discussion of this episode with a nice rant...
I think I'm missing the point of the stand-up submissions. In the interest of full disclosure, I submitted twice: the first was a complete abomination, and the second was the second entry played on this show, which Chemda disliked because I "used big words" and "sounded like I was insulting them." (For the record, I absolutely was not. I was insulting all the stupid crap on the Internet that surrounds them.)
Meanwhile, the two entries that got the biggest laughs, from Chemda at least, were someone doing an impression of a retard and someone doing an impression of Keith doing an impression of Samantha. Really? Those were the best two entries? Admittedly, I laughed at them, but I've laughed at Larry the Cable Guy as well, and I can recognize the difference in talent and intellect needed to do what he does as compared to what someone like Greg Giraldo does.
Not that I'm comparing my second entry to the comedy of Greg Giraldo (alright, I kind of am), but I would've liked to have at least had my entry listened to all the way through and not quickly dismissed because it wasn't an impression involving a goofy voice. I'll probably prove myself wrong when I laugh my ass off on April 15th, but it seems like while the "offending" entries worked as a two-minute bit delivered alone in someone's residence, the impression angle will get old over a ten-minute set.
Then again, my first entry didn't even work as a two-minute set, so what do I know? But my second entry was much better, and I'm upset at the reasons it wasn't played on the air. I think the voting will now be colored because Chemda misunderstood my intention (praise of KatG, which would have been clear had they played the entry for but five more seconds, and self-deprication) and was put off that I used the word "meritocracy".
If I sound bitter, it's just because...I am bitter. I WANT SOMEONE TO LIKE MY KAHMEDY, DAMMIT!!
