She did bits about her pugs on all her 3 cd's. She's with a pug on almost all her pics, Not exactly an unknown fact.
But stealing from Maria would be a suicidal move (i seriously think that no-one can pull off her stuff besides her, simply because she's unique), so i trust that it was coincidental. Plus, some of Maria's topics are quite generic, if you take her magically insane delivery from them.
