First time I've seen this (I know, I know) and I'm bound to get some hate.
After constantly hearing this movie brought up in conversation with high praise, I finally sat down to watch and I have to say, I'm incredibly unimpressed. I'll give it a slight break though being it Tarantino's first screenplay, but I think since he has released much better films afterwards, going back to his first has no doubt left me with higher expectations.
I am not going to bother mentioning the plot as I am sure I am the only one who hadn't seen it till now.
Upon viewing, I was quickly reminded of why I dislike Christian Slater (and Patricia Arquette is no prize either). The scene between Christian Walker and Dennis Hopper is, as expected, probably the best scene in the entire film and that's all we see of the two.
The only real character development we get in the film is the two leading members, so I end up not caring about the rest of the cast (although Rubinek as the film producer is a gem).
Also, Gary Oldman as thug wannabe Drexl was classic too ("He must have thought it was white boy day.").
The script is a little rough, the acting a bit forced, and bounces over the place (in Tarantino's typical fashion but his first stab being a little disorganized) but it wasn't half-bad for a new screenwriter.
