I think Kyle's just hanging out with to old of a crowd while he's trying to figure out his drinking strategy. Instead of possibly trading off bad nights with other people his own age while their all making the same kind of mistakes, sounds like he's hanging out with people that have been there and are over it.
Does being a bad drunk mean that you're getting loud and angry, or does saying and doing silly things also qualify? My friend's girlfriend always takes her top off (the bra stays on) after three or four drinks, it's a nice show for me, but I would find it very embarrasing if she was my girlfriend.
