I was in a long-distance relationship for 1 year during college and it was the hardest thing I ever did. We were only 4 hours apart, but it was far enough and we were poor so seeing each other wasn't the easiest. We dated for almost a year before that and then he transfered to another school. I don't think I could really start a relationship long-distance unless it was serious. I also had plans to eventually move to the city where he lived, which I did, so there was a light at the end of the tunnel. That was never a guarantee though until it actually happened. It could have easily not moved, but I had to make the hard decision to move to a city where i only knew him and had no family, and just did.

The hardest part was not knowing what he was doing and also not being there for stuff. We talked on the phone all the time and saw each other about once a month, maybe every 6 weeks. It was a great when I moved there to see him all the time, and then we broke up and I was still in a city where I knew very few people and had no family anywhere close. I couldn't move at the time we broke up because I had transfered schools and wanted to finish. That was so hard and was a very bitter time in my life.
