1) there are definite drug experiences you could have that are on par with being buzzed on alcohol, control-wise.
2) like i said on the show, most drugs don't make you black out like alcohol can, especially if you only have a small amount.
3) i'm fairly controlly about what i do and the circumstances in which i do them (kind of a not quite OCD, or fauxCD), and you can totally create controlled situations within which you can trust that whatever happens, everything will be under control. take a small amount of a new substance that you've vetted with someone you trust in a safe place. you won't all of a sudden become a different person who wants to flee your friend and environment for an outside unsafe zone experience that you'll never remember.
i'm not saying you need to do anything, just that your concerns can be addressed in rational ways that can still allow you to have these new experiences if you want to, and which can certainly be worthwhile.
