I still believe the Canadian system is better. You're paying for it with taxes, but it's there when you need it. So it's not technically "free," of course. You have the option of paying more or going somewhere else if you don't want to deal with wait times. I have been to the hospital many times, I am prone to accidents, and I can honestly say the longest I have ever waited was 3 hours once when I broke my fingers in 1993. They see people in order of importance of the injury. If somebody came in with their brains falling out... I would expect that they do not wait at all. Though that has never happened to me.... yet.

I am not sure why Americans have this impression that because we have universal health care we have to spend days or even weeks waiting for treatment. 3 hours was fine. I got ice cream and my little brother had lots of toys to play with. My fingers are all better now... and my parents didn't have to get part time jobs to cover the cost of me having them fixed.
