The coupon people are psychos. They somehow have figured out that coupons are printed with a special five digit code that's the same for products of the same brand, and the register will credit you even if you buy the wrong thing, as long as that brand code is the same.

So for example, there's a coupon for fifty cents off a 4-pack of Yoplait yogurt. But the coupon will still work if you buy the single yogurt that's only $0.33, meaning you're getting paid seventeen cents to buy each yogurt. That's how you get a thousand dollar grocery bill to come down to a hundred bucks. By stealing. The manufacturer can say to the store, tough shit, we're not honoring these coupons and the store has to eat that money. But manufacturers are already changing the coupon codes because of this exploit.

Those people are hoarders, like Faceboy said. One woman has four thousand rolls of toilet paper in her house. Yeah, the family might use them in ten years, but is she going to stop buying more of them in the meantime? Probably not.
