I voted to microwave him in return because I think this falls into a weird grey area. On the one hand, people look at pets as members of their families, and if someone were to fuck with my dog or cats, I'd be tempted to break out a baseball bat and swing at the guy who harmed them. On the other hand, pets are considered property by law, and giving someone life for the destruction of property, however cruel the destruction happened, is still a bit much. In that case, I would think an eye for an eye is fitting.
