One prime example is the cost of fuel which in the last 4 years here has gone from 95c a liter to $141 a liter here today. That effects EVERYTHING, the cost to get my ass to work, the cost of home heating fuel, the cost of food and all delivered goods. Anyone shipping products in, which is 90% of all consumer goods in American stores as they are all being shipped in from China, Mexico, Indonesia... Then there are the hidden costs like the cost of cotton has gone up over 100% in the last 2 years. THis unstable pricing has forced all alternative fabric costs to sky rocket as producers look product that doesn't include the cotton. I mean you can go on and on and on...so yes, the cost of living is an ever changing number that has gone up radically, seemingly , everyday. So, can you really say that a person who today is earning the minimum wage that was adjusted in 2009 would still be enough for the market of 2011.

No, you can't say that. Considering that the American jobless rate is now at an all time high, employers are able to offer basically whatever they want in terms of wages so you can bet most are offering minimum wage when and where they can. So the minimum wage earner is being screwed more then the average.

These kind of discussions boil my blood. I live in an incredibly social system in the MOST social of all provinces so the lower income Quebecois is going to have medicare, social assistance checks, unemployment, subsidized housing, schooling, paid mat leaves, you name it. An American in the same boat gets close to FUCK.ALL.

how is your services paid? i saw sicko but i dont recall how canada pays for it? its some kind of taxes right?

also, 91c to $141 or $1.41?

todays gas prices in hawaii, (which has to be shipped) in is $3.99 at the cheapest place.
FUCK.ALL in this case means the Average low income American seemingly gets no real help.

Quebec pays the highest taxes in Canada. We pay both federal and provincial income tax as well as consumable goods sales tax on every item of 14-15% By paying the high taxes you get a LOT of whiny bitches moaning about how little money they have because of it. BUT as mentioned in my initial quote we get so many services, including universal healthcare...such as it is.

We are paying $1.41 a liter which is about $5.30 a gallon. My Honda is over 50 bucks a tank.
