I'd recco anywhere in the 11238 zip code. That can be from down in Clinton Hill to up where I am in Prospect Heights. It takes you from the more college age crowd down near Pratt to a mix of young professionals and families and every combo in between.

The Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy Border anything before Nostrand is safe and even though you rely on the G train, not as bad as G train folklore would have you believe. If you don't mind a longer train ride into Manhattan (if you even need to regularly get to Manhattan) South Slope and Kensington are nice and have big old pre-war (High Ceilings, Moulding work etc) buildings.

Honestly Williamsburg proper s lovely to hang out in, but I'd never live there. I'm too old for Bushwick and don't get tricked into thinking Sheepsead Bay can be workable because the rent is so much cheaper. There is an emotional toll that cannot be recouped.
