Like all other genres, documentaries have sub-genres as well. Expository documentaries are the ones that have the stances we're referring to. They are not unlike a TV news segment or a newspaper article. They can make you believe what they want because they are the filter which the information must pass. They get to choose what not to tell you.

I will still however watch observational documentaries where there is nearly no interaction from the crew with the subjects. The film is simply meant to show you the subject in its truest state.

Side note: Morgan Spurlock got fat from the diet because he was overconsuming calories (probably over 3500/day), NOT because he was eating McDonald's. The overconsumption of calories and healthy vs unhealthy foods are two different issues.
