I think prostitution should be legalized if it could be competently regulated. I don't know if it could get the support it would need with the stigma and conflicting interests involved. I think it would have to come from a therapeutic approach to be accepted and would end up being either over-exclusionary and/or under-regulated, like the rest of professional therapy.

I know this isn't what the poll is asking, though. I'm not going to fuck with Keith's science. But I do agree more with Chemda's counterpoint. Driving any big demand underground instead of accommodating it at least enough to keep tabs on it, if only to keep tabs on it, seems unconstructive. It seems like the motivation for doing this is more about trying to manipulate the population idealistically and less about preventing actual problems.
