I'm half chinese and my aunts used to eat
bird's nest soup (the "nest" is actually bird saliva). It's apparently good for your skin, so
obviously worth the $500 - $1000 people pay for some. Oh, and the way they get the nests is not only dangerous for the birds, which are an endangered species, but also for the people harvesting them ... from cliffs.
also, I can attest to durian smelling like literal death ... "rotting flesh" seems like the most accurate description to me. BLECH. never got myself to try any, but my aunts and uncles are allll about it.
