Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequences. Anthony Cumia isn't in jail for his statements, that's all freedom of speech means.

With that said, I personally think that he shouldn't have been fired just because you are punishing someone for their thoughts. You can't punish racism/homophobia/misogyny out of existence. This just makes people who are really racist/misogynistic do it behind closed doors. People still feel it and talk about it and teach it to their family. Just look at the re-tweets that Ant's fans sent him, they couldn't wait to pile on with the hate.

The slippery slope isn't about the individual being tricked. It's about laws being enacted that can later be abused by the wrong people. The reason Hobby Lobby was able to deny its female workers certain types of birth control was based on a loop-hole found in a law that was passed that allowed Native Americans to take peyote for religious reason and not lose their jobs. Hobby Lobby argued, "if they can take drugs because of religious reasons and still keep their job, then we can do this because of our religion." The courts agreed. BAM! slippery slope all up in this bitch.
