If you're not using multiple tabs, why not just use a new browser window. The whole point of tabs is to multitask. It's essential for specific jobs, like web development, where you need to be able to see the admin area (cms) and front page of a website, as well as resources the client may have sent you (let's say basecamp).
Other than that, I use it as a reminder for things that aren't necessary or urgent (urgent things go in my phone) but that I should be doing at some point in the month.
For example, I leave up videos that I want to see during the week. Including exercises that I should be doing every now and then (example: for sports injuries) but I will never do them if I don't have them open in a tab or two. Same goes for things I want to read or buy after doing more research.
