This is exactly what you do. I think my parents were decent enough people, but they were terrible parents. Knowing that, you move forward with whatever sort of relationship you want to have with them.
At 28:38 in today's show Keith mumbled, "But I'll see her for Thanksgiving anyway." Fact is, I won't. I see my parents 1 day per year and haven't spent a holiday with them in almost 30 years. My kids haven't seen them in a few years and as little kids they were NEVER left alone with their grandparents.
The cycle of abuse is easy to stop.
