My last landlord was this old Irish guy. He was over fixing my tub a few weeks before we moved out and he says something about kicking out the kids who recently moved into the 1 bedroom apt on the 1st floor. 4 people living in the apartment. That alone seems like a reasonable reason to not renew a lease. But he goes on to say that this is a "family building" and "we don't need folks like that around here" and does this weird hand gesture. He keeps going on until I realize that he is telling me that there are homosexual people living in that apartment. I guess my straight white mom-ness made him think that I was homophobic as well and would agree that we can't have "that type" in a building with children. Oh boy. I decided not to argue with the old man and just nod. He fixed my tub and we moved out. He was the type of old person who would tell you the ethnicity of everyone he was telling you a story about and it never had anything to do with the story.
