Dang Hennessy, this sucks. IMO, this is a bill like any other, and the amount you pay will be a negotiation. The most you'll pay is $1800, and the least is $0.
Some options:
1. Do nothing. Stop responding to emails, texts, whatever.
2. Tell them that $1800 is too much, and make a counter offer. Then it's a haggle. Let Chemda drive.
3. Ask to make payments.
Some combination of these 3 options are probably the most optimal solution. This claim is small enough that they could sue you in small claims court. I looked up the rules for NYS small claims court
here, and the document is fairly informative and short.
