Chemda's completely right about how doctors were perceived and still are, to some extent. Especially by immigrants, at least those in Canada.

My grandfather's generation and those before him thought doctors were gods. My parent's generation, now close to retirement, have started to do more of their own research, while also considering what doctors, as professionals, have to say about our health. Nowadays many people take everything with a grain of salt, as they should (without being obnoxious about it to the doctor's face).

If you get a great doctor that knows their shit, keep them forever.
(Don't get too personal with male doctors though. They generally make terrible partners.)
