This exact thing happened to me but in reverse. I had to beg my bf to stop trying to make silly jokes with every stranger we interacted with, especially ones that HAD to talk to us (i.e. waiters, cashiers, etc). It just never goes well and it's cringe-worthy a lot of the time.
Sometimes he can't help himself, but it's not near as often.
