military holidays are tough ones. anything that makes people romanticize what it is to serve. the War came home and punched me, choked me until i passed out, strew blood and glass all over the carpet, put holes in the wall, blamed me for at least one suicide attempt with the same breath that put me in charge of finding its dead body and carrying out its wishes. war can go fuck itself. the parades can go fuck themselves. i was never in a battlefield, but one sure as hell came home to me still being waged. fuck off with the flag waving. i do what i can with the mess of a human War made. that’s about all i can manage.
