I've been doing intermittent fasting for a few years now. Initially limiting myself to 500 Cal on one day, no limitations the next. I am much much better at abstaining than self control so I found it was much easier to just not eat at all on fast days. So I've been doing that. One day nothing but coffee and water, the next regular. I tend to overeat on regular days, but overall it comes down to me eating fewer calories than I would over 2 regular days.
I mean... fewer calories, lose weight. That's probably the science behind it.

I can't recommend it for everyone, but it fits in with my lifestyle. I feel much sharper and more energetic on the days I fast. I think I lost about 30 pounds the first few months I did it and then stabalised. I've had a lot of (unrelated) health checks since and I'm a-okay on all fronts.
