I put myself on the bone marrow donor list 15+ years ago and it was a blood test then but now they just do cheek swap so it's no big deal, everybody just do it.
Chances you are called to actually donate are tiny but if you are it's literally saving a life and maybe that's different in the US but here nowadays the actual donation is from blood not the old-school drilling into the hip so even that is easy.
Also get an organ donor pass because you don't need that kidney if you are dead.
