oooh! i think i can answer this one! it’s pretty dumb. i’m not going to watch the movie until it’s on Disney+, but i went ahead and watched Erik Voss’ breakdown on New Rockstars so i can keep up with the larger MCU story unfolding and whence they’re adapting the lore. as it happens, the rings are alien tech and this Mandarin dude just kind of by happenstance finds them buried in the woods on Earth. it would be like a Martian finding a nuclear sub on Mars and wearing the Uranium like a weaponized brooch.
