. Also there's lots of hair "movements" that occurred since that documentary especially to maintain natural hair now (after fighting so hard to be able to wear it in its natural state). There are various wigs that do not require human hair. There are synthetic hair that you can actually wet and it gets wavy, there are front laced wigs that don't look like you're wearing wigs at all/crochet extensions/wigs too. There's also Keratin that straightens hair so relaxers aren't the only thing that can be used.
Anyway, I did mention Chris's doc in a previous comment. However, I wouldn't use it as the basic of educating you about Black hair.
Maybe you need more different Black friends Keith. Black isn't a monolith.
