Wired for War

Peter Singer's Wired for War has been praised by everyone from former National Security Advisor Anthony Lake to Jon Stewart as a definitive look at the growing use of robots on the battlefield...

Inside the Rise of the Warbots

I can't really tell which side this motherfucker is on. He seems pretty knowledgeable about robots and their potential, then goes and says some shit like, "I, for one, welcome our future robot overlords." Has anyone explained to this guy how serious the situation really is?

I just saw an interview with him on Brink on the science channel. He seems to be on our side. He was concerned about robots not being totally autonomous. He said its not a good idea to have robots with guns that are not under remote control by a human.

I would make the argument that robots under the control of people (ala drones) are not robots at all. The threat comes mainly from autonomous devices that require no human interaction to complete their assigned tasks.

The Preditor drone for example, cannot think on its own, it requires constant human input to function; on the other hand, those sentry bots they have started to make require no human interaction and freely patrol their programmed zones with a loaded firearm. It is a vast distinction in my opinion.

Remote control vs. autonomus control are two hugely different things.
