19: The Burger-Off

Keith, Pat, Jeremy, Cole and Intern Mike compete in the 1st ever KATG Burger Competition

serial_x 08-17-2009 12:19 PM

That episode was well worth the wait.

Now i'm hungry for burgers.

gumby013 08-17-2009 12:39 PM

I still say I won. :D Only contestant to get a perfect score for taste from any of the judges.

archicat 08-17-2009 12:52 PM

My new favorite KATG TV episode after Phenomenon.

Fuck I want a burger now... but the big question, which one of the five would I choose? ;)

Mine would be a toss up between Keith's and Cole's. Jeremy's looked pretty good as well, as un-American as it was. :P

Lanfear 08-17-2009 01:07 PM

I vote for Jeremys burger.

The one thing that I usually don't like about burgers is the soft no flavour buns so ciabatta wins me over and the mayo and gouda just sound delicious.

But seriously, tremendous stuff all around. I want Ep 20 the ChiliOff. Bring it!

sugaNspice 08-17-2009 05:58 PM

that was so funny. probably the best KATGtv episode so far

BrianA 08-17-2009 10:38 PM

Great episode. I even thought Keith's burger looked...ehh...well, it looked like shit really. But he is right - just buy super expensive seasoning shit at the store, and throw it on cheap-ass frozen patties. Very good Chef Keith.

I thought based only on appearance and ingredients, Jeremy's did seem to be the best of the bunch.

garrym13 08-17-2009 10:42 PM

Another great KATG TV! Love Potatoes comment at the end of the video!

blu 08-18-2009 01:52 AM

Matt B was hilarious in this episode..

I shouldn't be surprised right? :p

Leixes 08-18-2009 03:22 AM

Cole is too cute, I'm going to NY now!!! :D

Casanova Frankenstein 08-18-2009 09:36 AM

Great episode. Keith would be great in ANY burger commercial, the perfect pitchman.

Roses - LMAO.

Are the recipes posted anywhere? Jonesing for burgs big time.

Good point - Jeremy I request the Mayo recipe!

Sparrow 08-18-2009 09:43 AM

Awesome job!

Cole won. Breakfast anything is instant win.

That being said, I'm a simple girl with simple tastes and fake homemade is something I can get behind--it's a well kept lady secret. Keith I tip my hat to you, dear.

serial_x 08-18-2009 09:55 AM

Who is the Tommy dude?

punk'n 08-18-2009 09:57 AM

That looked like so much fun. I want to have burger P!S!P!

Alas, I guarantee my friends and I are far too disorganized for such an event. We need a Chemda!

Here's the recipe for my burger.

The meat is 1/3 beef chuck, 1/3 beef sirloin, and 1/3 lamb shoulder. I ground it myself in a food processor.

The patties were exactly 5oz...weighed on my coke scale.

They were cooked on the grill for two minutes per side, two times...for a total of 8 minutes. I used the instant-read probe thermometer to check that they reached my desired internal temperature of 135F. The burgers were then rested for five minutes.

The toppings were shredded smoked gouda and a white truffle mayo. The mayo I made myself.

The bun was a chibatta roll that I toasted on the grill.

Here you go!

2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 egg yolk
1 whole egg
1 teaspoon fine grain salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 cup safflower oil
1/2 cup white truffle oil

Add all ingredients except oils to a food processor. Pulse to combine. Turn the food processor back on and stream the oils in from a squeeze bottle. Should take about 1 minute to get all the oil in. The mayo should form quickly and you shouldn't need to run the food processor more than a few seconds after the last of the oil has been added. Let it stand at room temperature for few hours and then refrigerate. Letting it stand will help meld the flavors.

And don't worry about the raw egg in the recipe. The pH is way too high for any bad stuff to grow.

Stoopid Monkey 08-18-2009 09:20 PM

Oh Chemda, when isn't it shot time?

good show

Yeah, he was so great in this with his goofy helmet and mouthy Matt Bness, almost stole the show from Keith. Almost.

"I taste mayonaise and hate-of-America."

daemon 08-27-2009 12:36 PM

Matt B was so awesome with the helmet I had to watch this twice.

bithead 08-27-2009 08:31 PM

I also agree that Matt B was on FIRE during this episode; some great 1-liners, and props!

Well editted, especially the on-the-sly "get'm drunk", girl-power play. :D

I just learned to make mayonaise today so this recipe means more to me. I did it by hand though. Much much whisking involved :-\

Good stuff Jeremy.

BrownEyedBtch 08-28-2009 12:58 PM

I thought Keith carressing Matt's cheek after he fed him the burger was aces. This was the funniest episode yet. And yes, Chemda did try to sabotage Keith!

Yeah, by hand is for suckers...if you have power tools at your disposal!

I am uploading the raw video to Youtube right now.

gumby013 08-28-2009 04:16 PM

I am definetely going to try this out. Truffle oil is yummy to cook with, we make an awesome cream cheese/truffle oil and paste stuffed brie, baked in philo dough that is yummy on vegi crackers. Can't wait to try the mayo, thanks Jeremy

I think that Jeremy's Burger will win. I bet it will taste good. I'm craving for one right now. :)

Astigos 03-26-2012 10:13 PM

Wish they'd have another burger cook off. I'd rock some socks with a béarnaise burger.

Keith 03-27-2012 05:26 PM

I am getting hungry...

dannyhatch 03-27-2012 06:59 PM

Yeah I'll judge.
