I was interested but found myself straining to get the story. Maybe him trying to be concise and politically correct came off as stiff.
Chemda was great as usual Can't wait to see whats next. Please something different to LGBT topics?
I liked this episode a lot but I think I know what you are talking about. The hesitation and searching for descriptor words did kind of interrupt the flow but I took that more for pain rather than rudeness.

This show is a huge argument for more research into medical alternatives and when to (or when not to) intervene. Obviously most doctors don't have enough training in this area. How different would his life had been had they just said let's wait and see.

Kudos to Jim, very brave

Just wanted to add I'm a medical student in my final year and nothing about homosexuality (mentioned lightly in psychiatry), let alone gender differences has been mentioned in great detail.
I have found a couple of pages in my books about "Disorders of sexual differentiation", where it states that "the infants sex must not be assigned until detailed assessment has been performed by medical, surgical and psychological specialists followed by discussion with the parents. It has been usual to raise the child as a female, as it is easier to fashion female external genitalia, whereas it is not possible surgically to create an adequately functioning penis. However, it may be impossible to predict the sexual identity of the child in their eventual adult life and further support or gender reassignment may be required.
For this reason there is a move toward delayed definitive surgery to allowed the affected individual to give informed consent to any reconstructive procedures."

Based on this short paragraph alone you can contrast it with Jim's sad story. Obviously medical literature at the time (like he mentioned) was still at the "go for the easier gender" stage. Hopefully doctors these days are aware of the implications sexual differentiation disorders and do not continue to affect children's lives in such a manner.

This episode is so important! When my children were born, if this was the case with either if my children, I would have no idea how to proceed. I would have to take doctor's advice.

After hearing this, parents know that a, "wait and see," attitude will be best.

This is show is completely honest, informative, and heartbreaking. It should be required listening for any gender studies class!

Ok Chemda please don't be mad or take this the wrong way but given that you are a woman and are currently dating a female bodied person and males in the past, you really have a very limited understanding of human anatomy. That whole long discussion about you being so surprised that this male XY body 'really didn't need a hole down there' made me cringe so bad.

But then I watched Orange is the new Black over the weekend and that seems to be normal. Put season 2 episode 4 on the watch list, it has some very good anatomy lessons.

Sigh I just though that if you ever had sex ed and/or touched people between their legs you would know whether there should be a hole or not

Female xx born 1 hole for pee 1 hole for babies/could have been babies(aka menstrual blood)

Male xy born (as your guest was and mentioned several times (incl 'they cut off my penis' *eeek*) 1 hole for pee and that's it
