Judging by the source I'm gonna say Danny's obsession with death is closer to crazy than being old soul. I think it's just part of Danny's anxiety to over think bad things happening and how it could hurt him.

I don't really understand the whole thing with people caring about people remembering them after death. That need to be remembered, not just by friends, but by history isn't a *bad* thing, it leads scientists to create new things and for great art to be made. But..I just couldn't care less. I just wanna play my Japanese RPGs and listen to podcasts forever

some of those new things are robots so it's not always a good thing. It can also drive them mad or into depression when they feel they aren't reaching their lvl of notoriety
