The gangster Bugsy in the movie Bugsy starring Warren Beatty had the last name Siegel. He was a Jew.

Bugsy Malone was a movie from 1976 about a child gangster played by Scott Baio. They would "shoot" cream pies at each other instead of bullets. It was loosely based on the gangster Bugs Moran.

So, where did the name come from?

Perhaps this is what caused the confusion

Chemda's spiel from 19:13 is pure gold. I love how she just gets on a roll and even though Danny is interupting and she's addressing his interjections she never loses the thread of her point or the energy and momentum of her will to make that point. So sharp, so incisive, so perfectly delivered on the fly. Just brilliant and honestly kind of sexy in that I'm A Woman Who Knows How To Take Charge Of The Moment And Who Totally Gets It kind of way.

And then Danny's, "Well then why did you even bring it up," was perfect. I wouldn't say "sexy", but then I'm not one of those guys who ever gave it "the old college try" so maybe I'm not in the "target demo" to make that "judgement".

But Danny, speaking of sexy, was the Keith's Dog Is Sexy jag inspired by the recent Comedy Bang Bang where Scott Aukerman is telling Brian Posehn how sexy he find Brian's very young son? I was immediately reminded of that CBB but it wasn't until you brought out the "Mah wiiiiife" that I figured you probably count Scott Aukerman as a comedic influence. Which is a great thing, because after taking a while to "get it" I've found Scott Aukerman increasingly hilarious over the last couple of years and you could certainly have far worse influences than that guy.

All I can tell you old men is that I never heard of this movie in my life. I was 2 when it came out, and as I grew up a musical wouldn't have appealed to me, and a movie with a cast of children wouldn't have appealed to me.

I'm glad you fruits liked that movie. I never heard of it.

Bucho 07-20-2013 05:33 PM

Keith's right you guys, nobody ever heard of movies that came out when they were 2, starring one of the most famous actors ever*.

I know I've certainly never heard of movies that came out the same year as Bugsy Malone, like Taxi Driver, Rocky, The Omen, All The President's Men, Carrie and Network. All of which were musicals with casts made up completely of children if I recall correctly.

* Scott Baio.

Rocky The Musical

What an awesome idea!

My age is a known fact. I am old.

Bucho knows of a guy that has a cousin who may have known Trayvon Martin, so I'm not gonna give him a hard time.

I have never seen Bugsy or Bugsy Malone. I have no clue what either of them are about, but I feel there is some gangster undertone. But still, as soon as I heard Hugsy Malone, I knew it was some play on Bugsy Malone. Sometimes shit just gets into your brain. Go figure.

Here's the final scene of Bugsy Malone where everyone gets pied "to death".

Blitzgal 07-31-2013 07:28 AM

Danny: "Are you gonna use that?"

Chemda: "You can have it."

And Keith chuckling. Love it.
