71: Libby Is Dead, Long Live Libby
 

Hey there, sports fans. That’s something my Uncle Tom used to say to my sisters and me when we were kids. Except he was from Boston, so it sounded more like “hey dere spoats feeans.” Also, no, he did not own a cabin, you awful racist. He owns a very nice house in Plymouth, Massachusetts. BUT! Today’s episode is not about Uncle Tom. No, today is all about Libby, except it isn't even, because it’s The Danny Show. BUT! Libby is back, which is super cool. I will always consider her the once and forever co-host of this show, because she was on it from the very beginning. She has a great vibe that goes really well with this show. I don’t know if that’s an insult or a compliment, but it’s true. Also, I shaved my dumb shitty beard and I made an appointment with a psychiatrist for my dumb shitty head. First off, loved the monologue, I listened twice.

Secondly, your boyish clean shaven face makes your self deprecation funnier to me. It's like, "Look at his baby face, he can't possibly know anything about sadness or real feelings." But then you do, and it's more hilarious for it.

Thirdly, masturbating to gay porn in a Starbucks bathroom is hilarious, I don't care if it's true.

As always it was an excellent show. I wanted to take a teensy bit of time to talk about the differences in mental health providers because it seemed like everybody had a confused view of whats doin. Plus the more you know and shit.
ANYWAY, there are four big types of mental health providers that adults run into. Organized by how much school you have to go through starting with the most.
Psychiatrists-Can prescribe medications. Will often only talk to patients long enough to determine what type of medication would work best for them and refer the patient to another type of provider for actual therapy. Also often seen in hospital settings and with more severe types of disorders like schizophrenia.
Psychologists-Have a PhD. Mostly does testing, teaching and research. Often will provide therapy as well. If they do one of the other things there will only be 4-5 clients.
Social Workers- Do a lot of case management, like working with DCFS. Can do therapy as well. Focus on overall context of disorders.
Mental Health Counselors- Therapists and focused on social justice issues.
