79: Everything is a Fun Good Time, and This Show is a Prime Example of That
I’m just gonna dive right in with this one. This week on What’s a Thing, Who’s Danny? we’re back in the studio after our triumphant-ish live show. So what’s there to talk about? Well, lot’s of stuff. I’m SO glad you asked. #sarcasm. We’ve got a monologue that starts strong and should have ended strong but some people (not to name names) are stupid and don’t get jokes. So, boom. That’s out of the way. Then what? We talk about a girl who messaged me on OK Cupid. That’s fun. Then I have one of my patented Music Meltdowns when Keith and Chemda shockingly don’t jump for joy over the weird freak folk song I bring to the table. It’s back.

Yeah, Danny, when I left the Creek Sunday night, you were looking a bit overwhelmed on the couch. I thought about checking in with you and seeing if you were okay, but then I thought, "Eh, he'll probably live."

And after hearing the whole episode, I can say with confidence that I am glad that you did.

Long before Beck made quirky, hiphop-ish, dance tunes; he made an odd indie folk album entitled One Foot In The Grave. It's nearly unknown, but pretty amazing. That Richard Ramirez song sounded like a B-side from this album. A really shitty version, but had that raw, unproduced, off-key dual vocals, live sound.
It was quite clever though. I don't understand why Danny doesn't try and sell/ explain these songs to Keith and Chemda, (both from completely different musical eras and backgrounds, a bit better. Why does he like the song? What does he hate, but like that they're trying? How'd he get turned onto this band? What's the appeal? He's never gonna intro one of his picks with, "So Keith is really going to like this one as it sounds just like Poison's '88 hit song Nothin But A Good Time..!" However, he could put in a bit more work towards bridging the 16+ year gap between him and KATG aka Mom and Dad. "This song sounds like an eulogy." YES! BECAUSE IT'S A FUCKING EULOGY! Either way it's brilliantly cruel comedy. So maybe change nothing. |
To lose one family member to an exploding aerosol can is tragic.
To lose two is just fucking careless. |
Keith was too kind about that fucking shit that Danny erroneously called music.

Hawaiians love America.
I guess some islands are just more evolved than the next. |
Isn't the "wax" danny is talking about Hash?
Danny described it as black tar and chemda said it was yellowish-that's because hash comes in different colours depending on where it's from. |
I loved the music meltdown. Funny as fuck, especially since Chemda sounded so reluctant to agree with Keith.
Whatever conditions it takes to get Danny's father on the show, they should be stipulated and agreed to. Turn that awkwardness up to 12. (Danny already knows how to get it to 11) |
I love this show so much.
Danny's "Do you have pills to make your schtick any more funny and not played out?" line to Dr. Megaphone was fucking hilarious. Just, perfect. As a side note, I usually listen in the car or somewhere that's audio-only. I just flipped on the video to grab the correct phrasing of the line I quoted above, and holy shit that adds a whole new dimension and level of entertainment to it. That's probably dumb to say and fuck me for not actually trying it when it's been mentioned so many times before, but well done, and thanks! If you haven't checked out the video, do it! |
