Famous Band with Scientist
 
There are two bands I can think of with a Scientist in the band

Buckaroo Bonzai (It's a movie so not a real band)

Iron Butterfly (Ina-Gouda-De-Vida)
One of the guys was an astrophysicist who I believe had claimed he had made some monumental discovery and then disappeared to be discovered dead in the middle of the desert.
I also saw a show about the guy which is what made me think she probably saw something about them.

well at least is fits the story of famous band with scientist
