about jesse joyce's criticism of keith's approach to stand up:
he seems to forget that keith has a show, has had a show and basically is / has been able to hone his craft and fine tune his stand up skills pretty much daily for years now. some of the jokes or topics he spoke about on the show find their way onto the dvd's / stand up shows, which are then technically jokes / ideas which he has perfected and tested out on the show, in a relaxed environment. also the ability to be funny on the fly, make seasoned comedians laugh whenever they are guests and play out funny sketch-like scenarios as a reaction to whatever was discussed just a few minutes before on the show, are all, in my layman opinion, perfect practice sessions for a stand up. his delivery has become very sharp and he knows what works and does not work, whether it be through (what seems to listeners to be) random banter or pre-scripted notes for each show. it's like someone getting into fights every day on the street for years, being put into a ring once a year, against a trained fighter - steroid use aside, i think the scrapper would do pretty good. it might be a different approach to the same craft but should not be frowned upon by a seasoned fighter or in this case, comedian. |

I haven't seen Downfall yet, but I did love Inglorious Basterds. It was different then what I thought was going to be, and had moments where it was a bit long in the tooth (the bar scene being a good example), but in the end there were far more positive then negative.
As for superhero movies--the only time he's had a fair fight with villains in his size was the second one. Every other time it's been guys with Kryptonite. Last edited by DarkKnightJared; 09-01-2009 at 06:04 PM. |

I was thinking along similar lines. Most people probably don't know the etymology of most colloquialisms they use day-to-day. For example, "Egg On." I had no idea of its etymology until just now, even though I know I've used the phrase casually. We just pick this stuff up through the context of common usage, though I'd wager that the etymology of phrases used in America, on average, make a lot more sense than that of cockney words. |

The recent talk of killing nazis and iphone apps reminded me of something Keith may enjoy. Someone made an RPG of the nazi killing simulator Wolfenstein and it's pretty neat.

Everyone's probably seen this vid, but the talk about different trailers portraying the same movie completely differently reminded me of it.
