If the suicide was the major point they were making, they wouldn't bother with the date rape part. They'd just show a teenager killing herself and going to hell for it. Also, they wouldn't have a demon come out of the shadows to tell her that she deserved to be raped because she went out when she shouldn't have. They don't focus on the suicide; they focus on the rape. And, they don't focus on the rapist, they put responsibility on the girl who was raped. |

It's not, but you'd think that the same evangelicals who proudly wear their WWJD paraphernalia would actually believe some of the shit that's been attributed to him: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" is a big one that seems to get ignored by this crowd, for example. The stuff he had to say about the Pharisees (who today's evangelicals are eerily similar to) is also something they might want to look into. |

You know, I was thinking about it, and ready to call shenagins on the whole thing because the race was so close, and if the brumskis had voted for themselves, it would've totally been unfair. But they didn't, those upstanding young chaps. Sorry, serial. Although, I do think whoever thought of having a sudden death brumski-against-brumski round had a good idea!

Jesus did not say, "This person does not deserve to be stoned," he basically said, "You guys are not the right people to stone this woman." There is an extremely big difference, because in the second he is clearly saying that sinners deserve punishment. For all the people who break out that stoning bit as an example of how great Jesus is, they don't realize he's saying that if you haven't sinned you can totally huck a rock at her face. How's that a great guy? What's more, God definitely does command people to carry out punishments for him, and Jesus did not advocate stopping others from carrying out punishments, instead he advocated only stopping oneself if one is not without sin, not stopping others if they are not without sin. So according to Jesus and the Old Testament God, there's nothing wrong with saying, "Yup. Shouldn'ta been a whore, rape victim." JESUS, the epitome of kindness, evidently, is saying no more than, "Don't kill this lady yourself, though she deserves to be killed, unless you've never done anything wrong, AND THEN YOU CAN KILL HER YOURSELF AND THAT'S NOT A SIN." It seems intensely odd to me that a purported message of compassion would contain an attempt to enslave people to the idea of sin and God's wrath, and an opportunity to preach true kindness and compassion without that violent, shitty bit is left by the wayside. As Christians, there's nothing wrong with these Hell House people. As compassionate and fair people, there's everything wrong with them. As I said, perhaps the problem is that they are Christian. I always thought that's what they meant by "let he who is without sin," because everyone has sinned at least once in their life, so they are not fit to commit punishment. As for the show itself--am I the only one who, during the ghost speak at the beginning, was disapointed that, after the Sex & The City stuff we didn't get a ghost Samantha? "OooooOOOOoooo Darling, have you ever had ectoplasm suck your cock before?" |

1) Punishment is due 2) There is absolutely no mandate to stop someone from delivering deserved punishment, only a mandate to stop oneself from doing so 3) It is only wrong to stone a woman for adultery if one is not without sin; if one was without sin, it would not be wrong, therefore Jesus is advocating killin' a bitch over adultery Of course God is saying everyone has sin, what with all the putrid original sin nonsense the New Testament is rife with. But that does not change what is being said, nor what has been said, and what had been said before (by God, who is Jesus, remember) that was that man should give out punishment. So really, if Christians wanted to beat that rape victim with sticks, they'd be following God's will, and if they didn't they'd be following God's will. I hardly see how a Christian can be faulted for doing one instead of the other, then. |

If i know i'm going somewhere where people will try to scare me, i wont be scared. I have the same problem with horror movies. Something in my head clicks and if i expect a BOO! i'll have no reaction.
I'm not sure it's a gender thing though. I think girls like more to "pretend" they're scared, so they can squeak and giggle around. That's fun to them. Grown men screaming in a haunted house... That's ridiculous and a bit sad... |
