There are plenty of reasons why football might be more exciting than baseball, or why a football player is tougher (however that's defined) than a baseball player, but both of these are really stupid ones. It's a different game. It's a longer season. The 100 yard dash is a more exciting event than the marathon, but you don't say to marathon runners, "Hey, why not just run a few blocks?" Or maybe you do. Because you think it's funny. And maybe it was. The first time somebody said it in 1896. Same with the rain. You can't play hockey at 90 degrees. You can't play basketball on rocks. You can't play baseball in mud. Congratulations to football for being an all weather sport. But when you only play once a week, you kind of have to be. |

Would it be morally right in anyway for Tommy to kick the ass of this guy?No.
Would it be sensible considering there could be repercussions? No. Will it make him feel better about shit that's probably haunted him his whole life?Quite possibly.Maybe this is the one day in your life that you get to be the asshole. The hurtful things that happen to you when you're a kid really can bring you down, and it stays with you...my mum is 63 and has had a good life, but still talks regularly to this day about horrible things from her childhood.People who are picked on as a kid can have their confidence permanently destroyed because of it...think about how much difference that makes in a person's life. There's no logical thinking that can ever change the way you feel about these things...but to do something really powerful like kick your old bully's ass....that might actually give a person some real closure.I say weigh up the risks, and if you really feel like it, do it. |
