The only thing that bothered me about his whole Mormon thing is that he got so dicey once the underwear thing came up. If you are so hyper-sensitive about that kinda shit you create this gap between you and the people you're talking too. I was raised catholic, but people can make jokes about it to me. I didn't hear any malicious intent behind keiths "magic underwear" joke, and him being so sensitive makes me think he may not wind up as a regular guest.

I voted that it did change my opinion because I felt that I would be lying if I said that it doesn't affect me in the least. He was pretty funny in the clip that was played after the show, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him on the basis of his religion. I would be a hypocrite if I did that. I don't appreciate rampant alcoholism, but I'll see Doug Stanhope any day of the week because I love that guy.
I went to high school across the street from a Mormon Temple, and all the bus kids (me and my friends) would usually end up walking across the street to school with all the Mormon kids. They were just as diverse as any other group of kids, with nice and mean and good and bad all represented. But I noticed when I tried to talk to them that they seemed to have no clear idea of what went on in their church. The crazy Christian kids would talk your damn ear off with the Jesus, but the Mormon kids had to be in church for 2 hrs or some crazy thing every morning before school and they had absolutely nothing to say about it. It's a very large possibility that they just didn't want to tell me, because I obviously had no interest in joining them, and I was probably just going to tell them how dumb they were (I was roughly 30 times more opinionated and offensive in HS than I am now). I always thought that it was ironic that the church puts such an emphasis on recruiting, but no one seemed especially interested in spreading the word, not like the Christian kids-they are sick enthusiastic about Jesus.

Anyway the point is; pretty much all religions feel that they know best and it is their duty to save you from your sins which in turn leads them to being obnoxious as fuck and smug pricks. I mean i look back and i was 12 years old trying to convert people three times my age, i was fuckin brainwashed. |

Let's say its not 150 years ago and someone comes out today with a claim that they found some golden plates in a hill that are a basically a lost book of the Bible. When asked for proof the person replies, "Well, only I am allowed to see the tablets. Why? Just cuz." How quick do you go, "OK, say high to David Koresh for me, nutjob."? I've really got nothing against Mormons and am not trying to shit on them at all, but that part of the LDS story always bothered me.

The only real thing that bothers me about Mormons is that their church has some very real political power and it is growing. So while I may like an individual with ties to the church of LDS, once I am aware of those ties I am at the least wary and may go as far as to regard them as an enemy soldier (ideologically, not literally).
