I played poker for a (crappy) living a couple of years ago, the guys you see at 1/2 no limit in casinos are by no means professionals. They're just moron addicts who spend way too much time playing poker. Most tables of 9 are mediocre players, at most there may be 1 or 2 decent players, which is rare. Keep in mind that although $100 or $200 seems like a lot to gamble away, it's the lowest limit you can play at the casino, most good players play 5/10 and up.
That said, both Keith and Chemda, though you admit to being meh poker players, way overestimate your skill levels. There are so many concepts you and the 1/2 no limit live players have never even heard of that you've only barely scratched the surface of poker strategy (and no, it's not about knowing the odds or being able to convert outs to probabilities, that's just some preliminaries). But it doesn't matter, the beauty of this game is it's enjoyable for players of all skill levels. Slurp

The consensus seems to be "limit sucks"
NL has pretty high session-to-session variance, at the worst maybe you'll drop 10 buyins or so, but in limit you can just stop winning for months. I've seen graphs of winning online high-limit poker players who just go on 100k hand breakeven stretches. Then again, some say NL will be the death of poker because good players win really fast compared to limit. |

On the topic of the co-ed dorm rooms, I stayed over in a dorm that had co-ed bathrooms/showers. The school used to have the girls and guys bathrooms on alternating floors (Men on 1st, 3rd, 5th Womens on 2nd, 4th, 6th) and rather than have people running up and down stairs they took a vote and agreed to just share.
Not exactly the same thing as the bedrooms but as the rules were explained to me it was "4 feet to a shower" so ya, I think they pretty much embraced the idea that it was going to lead to sex. |

When I played in casinos, I was never the guy to sigh or complain. If somebody played badly and got lucky, I didn't start complaining or teaching them. That stuff's a result of players being mediocre for years, so they look for reasons to validate themselves because they can't win.
It's actually kinda fun to root for the drunk guy and see how miserable he can make the other players. |
