Keith, when you say that verbal threats should be punishable by law, does that mean you've changed your position on laws to combat "emotional violence"?

Verbal threats are punishable by law. As they should be.

Namdnal Siroj 01-20-2010 10:32 PM

But you think (all) verbal threats should really be punished, right?
What would you say is the difference between verbal threats (airport-twitter) and verbal violence (between French spouses)?
In terms of effect on people?

Male/34/sober/a normal amount shits.

You're being silly.

The way I see it, twittering a threat to blow up an airport is the modern equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded theater. I'm glad he got detained. In this day in age, an adult should know better.

Except instead of a crowd of people in a theater, its a room of your friends. And the people panicking are not the people in the theater, but someone walking by the room.

I disagree. You're posting on the internet where anyone can see your dumb twitter post. If anything, you're effecting more people than shouting fire in a theater.

Things on the internet don't just show up on your computer, you have to seek them out.
