Yes, but the point of the movie is to find out what rosebud is. That's what drives the plot. But how could it do that if there was nobody to hear it in the first place?

Not that it matters but the whole movie is a fuck you to William Randolph hearst, but in the end it's about the main character, Kane. When everything is wrapped up it shows that nothing else mattered, not the wealth, not the ladies, not the power, it was the simple life that was important

just because the reporter does not hear it does not mean you don't hear it, even if the reporter did hear it it doesn't really change what it says about Kane and his life, that does not make it a plot hole
