You are all missing the point. The rule is no guns in school. That means no guns in school. If you went or your kids go to a school where toy guns are ok or imaginary guns are ok then fine. But this child went to a school where you can't bring in toy guns. Thus if you do you get in trouble.
You're right though stopping kids playing with guns is a very slipperly slope eventually they won't be able to play with real guns and then the British will come in and try to house soldiers in our homes!

But aside from that this school had a rule. The child broke the rule. The child got a warning about breaking the rule. When did it become a bad thing to discipline children? |

In this case the child deserved to get punished for breaking the school rules. All child care centres I have worked in had similar or stricter rules about guns, and I would have no problem enforcing them. Does that clarify it for you? |

I only say that based on this
where I obviously see some sarcasm, but it's hard to tell how serious you are in text. Seems to me like you went from "against the rules" to "pretend guns lead to real guns" to "against the rules" again. |

re: the kid with the gun.
The point is - no guns. It's irrelevant how big the gun is. Next story might be "oh wow, my 2nd grader had a pink super soaker and almost got suspended" or "it's so obvious my son's gun is a toy, like honestly, blah blah blah" The line they drew is NO guns. Not "guns smaller than 5 inches long are permitted" or "guns that are not traditional looking guns are ok". They made an example of this kid within to school to say "Hey, kids, really, like NO guns." I remember hearing on an earlier show about those guns that get custom painted to look like Hello Kitty and stuff. They don't look like guns that could shoot up a classroom, but they sure as fuck could. So if a kid brought a hot pink toy gun, I expect he should be suspended, just like this kid who brought a realistic yet tiny fake gun. |
