Maybe one episode on Mythbusters may leave you skeptical, but there are many videos/sites that say ear candling is a myth, and I can't find any videos of them actually working. (The one given by "scumbag" even shows the candles don't create a strong vacuum) If you know of even just one video where the experiment looks legit (not staged) and it works, then all the other videos could just be people doing it wrong; but there isn't such a video. Believing in candles at this point basically demonstrates a lack of understanding of what it means for something to be "scientific knowledge".

The debunking movement's popularity can be explained as a counter-movement to the holistic remedies/alternative medicine movement that's been gaining momentum. The so-called internet wave is just people trying hopelessly to show that you're getting scammed. Keith started with "hey, it's just $2, who cares if it's a scam" and he's now looking to pay $10-30 for this, so he's getting sucked in.

You make a lot of good points there D., but i saw those candles work very well on others and partially well on me. (The "partially" due mostly to the fact that i had enough earwax to need a doctor's intervention).

I wont call it a scam or a dangerous practice. Not effective as a visit to an ear doctor maybe (a good one, most of the are REALLY scamming bastards), but a possinility.

I had the same problem that Keith had when I was about 8 years old. One ear candle on both ears and I've never had a problem like that since.

Everything the Junkster just said. I am getting into this musical shit. First the insane tandem of the great Myq and Micah, now this.

So yeah we (or I) need a Keith and the Girl TV. "Ear Candles" or "Ear Candling" or for the speech impediment: "Air Candling". It would be awesome. See the thing is, if Keith doesn't hurt himself and it works. Tadaaa, ACES. YOU LEARN SHIT. But if he does hurt himself..Tadaaa. Fuck these candles. ACES. It's win-win.

For the record I hope whatever Keith does do, that he is not hurt.

No, the two boys aren't brothers. I thought they were at first but I found out the other one lives further down the street. I didn't send the e-mail to Keith until I got my facts straight.

If they were brothers then that would be infinitely more disturbing.
